AoR and Perf

When to use AoR and Perf?

My question is about what level I should use those 2 skills, and what lvl they should be upgraded to.

 

Please share your opinions  :D

AoR is going to be your best AoE for awhile. You'd want to get that to 10 if you are exping. Perf doesn't really have much of a use, except when mobs are still lined up. Personally I feel AoR to be the best AoE you'll have, so there really isn't a point in getting perf to 10, because you can have other things to lvl :)

That's correct.

While exping you should use AOR. (can use bomb shot too at ft1\ft2)

I'm a 103 archer and something about AoR vs Perf has come to my attention. I noticed that AoR takes almost 2x longer to cast, versus perforation. And so: I'll be switching over to Perforation once again. :)

Nah, AOR has almost the same range as Dia of mages, vs Perfo with a lined damage which sucks.

AoR and Perf both have advantages and disadvantages.

 

Arrow of Rage

Advantages:

- Minimum damage of your level x 6 (when skill is at lvl10), even when using a 1 hand bow

- Very good for sod, with a circular area of effect

- Lower mana consumption

 

Disadvantages:

- It's slower than Perforation

- Critical damage is hardly included, if it's ever at all

- Has what I call a 'rogue' area of effect, not practical to pinpoint exact targets

- At the extend of your range, this skill doesn't do much (aoe) damage at all

- Awful aoe for pvp

 

Perforation

Advantages:

- It's a quick skill with faster animation

- Damage is decent, but with it's critical damage and pace, it's does more damage than AoR over a same period of time (depending on your stats, of course)

- It has an exact aoe (a line), which in ft1 I use to pinpoint the Dark Prophets and hit monsters in it's path, or use it to attack multiple Prophets at once (who line up around the tank) You can use it quite strategically

- Since it's fast, it's the better skill to use for hit&run (should you ever wanna do that)

- Better aoe for pvp

 

Disadvantages:

- Since its aoe is a line, it's not very good for sod (unless you wanna hit and run)

- Very low damage when using a 1 hand bow

- Consumes a bit more mana (I think)

I did a quick comparison of damage w/ Aor vs Perf.

 

Lets say...I'm level 103 (:D) and my att pow is 500, avg

 

AoR lvl10 = 500 + lvl*6 (618) ~ total 1018

Perf lvl10 = 500 + 73% (365) ~ total 865

However, I'll just take a rough guess, if Perforation has a cast time of 1.7X that of AoR, your actual output would be approx. ~1470

 

And like Melocrie stated, critical is also taken into account for perforation. :) I did the test today, just to be sure, and I noticed its slightly quicker for exping in i2. I suppose that the type of movements you make also determine how fast you gain exp. That into account, I noticed I have the freedom to move around much more with Perforation. This helped me shuffle and move around any monsters into a position of my liking.

 

My honest opinion Perf>AoR for exping... alone. With a party AoR is more practical, and the animation for it kicks ass too.

It's good that you test it out for yourself. I can see why people would prefer AoR, and I've stuck with that too a long while. I recently changed it back to Perforation, for some reason exping is way less boring now.. I feel like I'm dynamic on the field with Perf. I pretty much lost my tanking ability without vl (AoR + shield + healing phoenix = decent damage and tanking ability), but at least killing goes way faster now, and so does the xp gaining.

The perforation line isn't even that bad, you can use it in many ways. When you reach 110 to xp in forgotten temple, make sure you also got bomb shot at lvl 10 (it totally rapes the demons there). And since archers are pretty much obliged to kill the rangers, perforation would be perfect for that. You can choose an angle behind the tank, pinpoint the ranger, and hit all the mobs in its path. Works great, to me at least.

I'm too lazy to move 24\7 and seek for a lined mobs.

At ft1\ft2\ad1\ad2 you just stand at the middle with more tankers and spam AOE.

You have to seek for lined up mobs? They line up around the tank themselves, choose an angle from either his left or right side, and ravage them all. It's not like its aoe is a line of 3 pixels wide, it's quite a broad line.

No its not that broad line.. O.o

if I choose an angle from left or right side I hit 50% of the monsters instead all of them with AOR, and that's lame.

That proves nothing, except maybe that you had waaay too much free time ;D Besides, if you didn't suck, you wouldn't have complained so much and traded your as away :P
