Fortunately I have a backup of old R. PT site, and somehow there is still a video online from 2010 about the skill itself. It seems it was being worked on since the beginnings of the server.

Unfortunately there was some fun flash animations that simply is lost forever.

Oh, I remember those days. And I have many stories to tell!

And I remember the pesky bug that made some monsters to become immortals and stop receiving damage, reducing overall exp gain. After so many immortals monsters gathered togheter, we had to lure them alway so they would disappear and re-spawn.

This reminds me of a story related to VL, and how much it negatively affected Wartale to this very day, after a simple change on it.

This particular room was the hot stuff, the main meta, before Ancient Dungeon. The ideal party was 5 members - two killers on each side, on top of the ladders, facing outwards. How many brandishes were used back then! The last one had to be a Priestess to VL, without it everyone would simply die. Priestess didn't had any use besides the VL, her strongest skill was Chain Lightning that dealt fixed damage based on a crap formula.

The reason that made VL a must have, was a hidden effect that nobody knew about. VL always gave a hidden damage reduction (not abs, damage reduction is the same of Godly Shield, Gravitation and Energy Shield) based on the increased HP percentage. At lv 10, it gave 30% HP and a hidden 30% damage reduction (if Knight 25% damage reduction makes a huge difference, imagine 30%?). Most players thought the easier time tanking was just because of the increased HP, because, well, we didn't had damage indicators to see the actual damage being reduced.

However I've always felt that it was more than just HP and calculated the damage received by comparing screenshots of my own hp before and after damage, with and without vl. I've discovered that hidden effect many years ago, on my XPK days. That is the reason I've always carried a VL chocolate with me, on days that even a priestess buff mule to VL wasn't a thing!

Later somebody talked about VL on forums and then a discussion began here on forums, and I've explained that it gave hidden damage reduction (but it didn't knew if it was 30%), same way as KS Godly Shield. After everyone knew how it worked, some people asked for the removal of the effect, some didn't. Don't know why but then the staff decided to remove the hidden effect.

The removal of the VL hidden damage reduction sprouted a massive negative uproar, the PvP was all but one hit kill. Then, after some time, the staff made a decision, stick with the removal of the hidden dmg reduction, and reduced the PvP damage by half, compared to PvE. This change remained the same untill few months ago, where the staff changed the PvP modifier of 0,5 (50%) to something different.

hen, later on, people started to also give negative feedback about PvE, on how many classes weren't able to survive without it. After some time, PRS got the the  damage reduction back just for PvE, but now instead of a hidden effect, it is part of the skill description but just 10%. 

The removal of this hidden damage reduction affected R PT, now Wartale forever. When we had it, albeit a Priestess being must have, all classes were able to survive inside of an Exp Map spawn and exp in a party. Even super fragile ones like Archers. After the removal, things changed forever. And I believe to the bad side.

After that no other classes were able to tank, and Priestess itself got the Ice Meteorite. Ice Meteorite was the strongest AoE skill by huge margins. Not only the actual area was enough to kill even ranged monsters when standing at the middle, it had 10 meteorites at lv 10. Ice Meteorite was also a reason to many debates, untill they nerfed it to 7 meteorites.

Out of sudden the game wasn't more based on party play. Besides Ice Meteorite, most bugs on Priestess skills were fixed, the long awaited fix on Extinction and then her Holy Reflect / Undead damage hp conversion. Before it, people still used to exp on 1v1 parties on Lost or AoE parties in Forgotten Temple, like we did on your screenshot.

After that, as soon as Priestess got 110, she was able to solo every single spawn, up to the last map of the game (Ancient Dungeon 3), without proper gears, due to the massive aumont of undeads. If you werent a Priestess, it was impossible to find a spawn to exp solo or party, and Priestess didn't had any reason to party other players aswell, since Ice Meteorite was like, more than two or three times stronger than Magician with Diastrophism/Meteor, that was the strongest AoE of the game back then.

If you weren't a Priestess you were stuck forever. Because of this, i've hated so much on Ice Meteorite. After so many discussion here on Forums, nothing actually changed on the subject and I simply gave up. I had to do something I'll never forget: Asking if someone would trust me to lend me their priestess, so I could make a exp service for free on their Priestess, so I could exp on the Priestess with my KS leeching.

Nothing changed to this very day, things plays the same after the VL change and Pristess Ice Meteorite. So many bad things became a norm!

 

Exp Servicing wasn't a popular thing back then, because it was nearly impossible to play solo, all classess were weak and party play was a must. Exp Service was rare, and the one who did, played JUST on the account he was being paid to serice. If someone tried to multi task / multi client, characters would die. The only real way for a exp servicer to do the service on multiple character was by making them to leech, decreasing the speed of the exp service itself, and the guys who bought didn't accepted / tolerated it.

Then, after the changes, Exp Servicing became so much more easy and accessible, all you had to do is leech a Priestess, it would be faster exping anyway. Any class besides PRS would exp much slower even if they could exp solo.

Because of that change, RMT became a thing much more prominent, some players began to pay Exp service with real money because it was so easy to find an exp servicer. On top of that, it enabled a single player to exp multiple characters all by himself.

Then, Magician got Stone Spike that was more powerfull than Ice Meteorite, but still not a match for Priestess on undead maps. Then after so much time, other classes got their AoE skills buffed, and, because of this very change, AoE became a hell of a issue on Wartale, be it PvP or PvE. Just like the pve / exp service issues, AoE is a problem for Wartale to this very day.


Oh well, how history would have turned out if it wasn't for the VL change?
