For high lvl shields or orbs??

Hi guys just wondering if the high levels mages prefer more shields or orbs? And their opinions about it

I mostly see a ton of mages using a shield, and several reasons I can think of are this : with a shield you get more defense, more abs, and a much higher block rate.

I have a questions for orbs mixing, as it says that you get 10% more defense with each, that % grows with higher mix or is just the 10% of if original defense??

Well, block is a big part of it too. IMO, having a nice high block, makes up for any difference that aging an orb would give you defense wise. Plus, if you age a shield, you get MORE block.

you get more def with higher ages because its +10% of your current def not just base def (i think spec stats dont count though)

with a lvl 120 +20 orb you could get up to 198 * 1,1^20 = 1332 def if im not mistaken. So with high end equip, Orbs can get more def and abs (100 def = 1 abs) than shields but still less block.

feel fine without energy shield at ft2/ad1 (im lvl 123).

so if he uses an high aged orb, i suggest you do the same =P (only at high lvl of course)

 

another reason for orb is that whenever you use a 2handed Staff , having an extra ~30 points in str will be a total waste.

Since defense and block essentially does the same thing by preventing you from getting hit but does it in different ways, it's a question of how effective defense is. Block is easy to tell; you have 20% block, you get hit 20% less, end of story. From what little I have found about defense though, the ratio of attacks it stops depends on the attack rating of the enemy (primarily at least). Since I know neither the formula for defense nor the AR of monsters, it's pretty hard to say which is better. In general I would say that the stronger the monster is (or the more AR it has to be specific), the less useful defense is compared to block. At some point, you'll be getting the equivalent of those 20% of block, but you need to know when that happens to compare shields and orbs. Give me the defense formula and monster AR, and I'll be able to tell you which is better generally.

advantage of using orb:

+773 def

+5,6 abs (def boost already included)

23 free statpoints which also help when using 2-handed wands (min str req  for as shield is 98, for gaunts its 75 if im not mistaken)

+14% block

and you can actualy see your character wearing a shield with glow effects (style bonus ;P ). Using orbs your character will look somewhat "naked" wearing only a small wand.

 

I cant tell whats better ^^ as Crius said its hard to compare def with block without knowing the formulas.

I agree you. Im using orb at my lvl. But finally i dont have answer for which of shield or orb is best gear yet.

So, it depend on Situations (lvl / battle fields / your cash / your other gears ..etc).

Oh yes, my purple-glowing phoenix shield matches the outfit (ruah robe) perfectly. Color coordination is important for the fashionable priestess.

Ill wait sandurrr modify orbs to add more block..then i use shield 115 ATA BOM..

In SOD i can tank r7 without problem.. i use 1 pot life in 40 sec in 40 sec..

yeah that's a downside....

 

It would be nice if the RPT Weapon switcher (created by Davv) could put a 3d shield instead of the "void" orb. This would solve the visual style thing... But it seems orbs were made in a way they have no "3d body attribute" at all, so it's sorta impossible....

 

The perfect improvement it would be to create the correct 3d orb, a small piece in the mage's arm (not gonna happen even in 3 years).

Because it's not critical for the game.

 

First of all, it will only be done through a huge asking process, until it gets to the development page www.realmpt.net/development

 

Then, we'll have to wait first all T5 skills to be done, all balance to be made (notice every single thing might take some months to be done), not to mention all improvements already in the development list, which have higher priority.

 

Considering the amount of things to implement, i can guess 3 years, IF and only IF It's already in development list. 

 

 

IMO it could be implemented and I'd like it to come ASAP, though.
