barcode120x 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2011 Didn't seem to find any "beginner guides" here. I did read around a lot so I kind of have a gist of what skills/stats I should have end-game/higher lvl. 1) What MAJOR skills should I be using AND using my skill points on say till like lvl 60 or 70? 2) Should I be using an Orb or Shield while lvling up? 3) What other stats should I stack other than Spirit aside from requirements for shields if I do go shield? 4) Last but not least, is Agony worth getting/skilling up or is there no need due to pots? Thanks!
1337person 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2011 Hello On this server, it does not matter what skills you use until about level 70-75. So, plan for the future, not for your current level until you're 7x. First and foremost, if you're just starting our or are below level 80, know that crystals are your friends. When you make a new character, run outside to Garden of Freedom (or the Pillai/Phillai equivalent), kill a few hopies/rabies, and get a few thousand gold. That should take you less than five minutes. Next, buy a bunch of mystic crystals (all that you can), go to Mystery Forests, and start spawning them. Remember, your summoned monsters don't attack each other so you can get a huge army going. Now, just loot (MF dummies drop a lot of gold) and leech from your summoned crystal monsters (MF monsters give a lot of experience for quite a few levels). You should probably return to stock up on crystals. Once you notice that your rate of experience gain is somewhat slow, go to the highest level map you're able to go to and summon an army of King Hopies. For stats: Get talent/agility enough for magician spec equipments. I wouldn't worry about this until late 8x. The rest of the points go in spirit. Keep health at base level (21). Get enough strength for an archer spec Great Shield. Try to aim for one that has a strength requirement of 80 or less. This is because most high level magician spec gloves require 7x strength. Orbs are quite useless, despite having a block %. This is because they have lower absorb but mostly (actually, 99% of the reason) because shields have a much higher block %. An aged Great Shield is much better than any orb, IMHO. If you want, you can pump strength even higher to get a higher level shield, but I wouldn't recommend this unless you have points to waste and don't really care if you do 50-100 points less damage. As for skills (in order of priority): Tiers 1 to 3 (SPs) What skills to increase: 1. Diastrophism -get this to level 10. There is no delay, regardless of what level you upgrade this skill to. You don't really get too much of a damage boost for leveling diastrophism, but the range of the skill increases and, therefore, you can "accommodate" more monsters who wish to die. Note that the damage formula for diastrophism is more enhanced inwtthan in EPT. Actually, most skills for almost every class is modified and better than vanilla PT. 2. Elemental Spirit -max this out as well. Gives a nice 200% bonus to all magic skills. 3. Energy Shield -keep this around level 6 until you're close to 9x/10x, where I would recommend maxing it out. 4. Zenith -zenith actually works so it is quite useful. Once you have the aforementioned three skills at appropriate levels, max out Zenith. You'll notice that you'll be able to resist monsters that freeze/stun and if you do get frozen/stunned, you'll be stuck for a much shorter duration. 5. Mental Mastery -the rest of your points should go in here. Not really necessary. 6. Dancing Sword -this skill isn't all that great but the frost sword can be helpful sometimes. But, then again, it is completely dependent on luck whether you get the frost sword or the flame sword. In either case, Distortion trumps this. 7. Watorado ( ) -I dunno but this is my favourite spell for mages. I remember before tier 3 how mages would use their 30ft tall watorados. This is the only skill where the skill's appearance changes as you level it up. There isn't anywhere else you can actually use your SPs after leveling all the spells I mentioned for any noticeable improvements so I'd put them here just to spam 30ft tall watorados and look cool. 8) What NOT to increase: 1. Death Ray -the damage increase is pathetic. Yes, there is a range increase as well, but that is pointless when you'll have a pet tanking for you on hunting maps. 2. Fire Bolt -pointless. 3. Fire Ball -see #2. What to wait for: 1. Enchant -this is supposed to be revamped so that it may become a useful skill to use on mêlée party members. 2. Agony -right now, there is no need for this skill because there are too many mana potions. Changing/improving agony is on the "to do" list for this server. Let's hope it turns out great. Tier 4 (EPs) What skills to increase: Well, pretty much all of them because you'll have too many EPs to spare by 12x. Order of importance also depends on what your priorities are. For leveling: 1. Distortion -not usually the first choice in T4 builds for magicians but hear me out. You'll rarely find the need for flame wave or meteorite since diastrophism is pretty good. Note that the formula for diastrophism on this server is different from EPT, as noted above. This leaves you with distortion and fire elemental. Distortion is an AoE skill and complements diastrophism. It isn't traditionally used in PvE but it does help more than any of the other skills for exping. 2. Meteorite/Flame Wave -not really all that useful here. But you'll have plenty of points to spare. 3. Fire Elemental -well, you can level this up instead of meteorite or flame wave if you wish but during your lower levels when tanking in a big spawn is difficult, I think you'd prefer to run around casting flame wave or meteorite until you're able to tank by yourself. For hunting: Mages are nowhere near excellent hunters, but Amplify (Tier 5) does help a bit. Also, you should be pretty high leveled to actually think of hunting. Suffice it to say, you'll have plenty of points to max out most of the Tier 4 skills by the time you're ready for hunting so just max out Fire Elemental and Distortion. You'll be able to max out either Flame Wave or Meteorite or both but both are pretty useless by now. Tier 5 (RSPs) Max Amplify. Put rest in Magic Source Wait for stone spike and execration. An incomplete guide for an incomplete tier. Yeah, I was that bored. ^^

barcode120x 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2011 My lvl 20 rank up quest seems to be not working (I'm lvl 44). I picked it up, tells me to kill devilish trees to extract the oil which I've killed quite a lot, but still no quest drop. If I look at the quest info it says [Done] so I talk back to the NPC but still no rank up. Not sure what to do next. I looked at the quest guide on the main page but it says just to follow what the NPC does but I'm not getting a quest item drop from those devilish trees (yes, I check my quest item inventory but there is nothing there) Where would be a good place to buy/get starting gear or should I just use whatever I pick up? I checked the town that leads to Mystic Forest and those are lvl 65-80 gear but I'm only lvl 44.
1337person 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2011 Do you have the oil container? I think the fat blacksmith gives that. Oh, and since meteorite has lost its cooldown, I suggest using meteorite instead of dias. Meteorite spam does a lot more damage than dias now, plus it is ranged so you don't have to pot spam as much.
