I have a mage question

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I played PT a long time ago (at the begining of 2005)

and i have to ask somthing.

My Mage at ePT had a pure spr build. i dont remember the right numbers but i had 80% spirit and 20% health.

agi talent str for min items such as robe level 17.

I remember i had very good damage, and with the Energy shield i had a decent damage reduce + allot of HP with the stat upgrade.

My question here is about your opinion for such a build.

If you have any diffrent build, Please! let me know about.

Regrads,

I had a spirit/talent build in EPT and my damage was decent as well.

In rPT, I'd recommend going for agility enough for the highest level items. This is because after a certain level, the agility and strength requirement of gauntlets, boots, and bracelets stops increasing. I believe that agility maxes out at 90 for no-spec items; for magicians, it is 90*0.8=72 for the lowest agility required to always have the best boots, I believe. Strength maxes out at 100, I think, for no-spec items, so for magicians it is 100*0.75=75 for the minimum required strength to be able to equip the best gloves in the game.

My magician, for example, has 77 talent, 72 agility, and 79 strength, with the rest of the points in spirit. I do not need to increase any of these stats because no item requires more minimum talent, minimum agility, and my strength is sufficient for my great shield, which is minimum strength archer-spec. Of course, the strength/agility/talent requirements can be higher, in which case I may not necessarily equip the item unless I am unable to find an alternative after exhausting all means.

With 77 talent, you should be able to equip any robe/staff/wand with minimum talent requirements.

IMHO, this build is superior than a pure spirit/low talent or spirit/talent build since we know the maximum strength/agility/talent we need to be able to equip the best items, giving us increasing absorb and defense, without the need to sacrifice additional points once we have allotted these maximum points.

I know the benfit from getting high level items.

But the question is, I want to EXP for now... isnt the best way is to go pure spirit?

Since our damage DOES increase when i raise spirit (Meteor  shower is spirit/2)

You can't really train effectively if you have to pot a lot. With decent gears, you can train in higher level maps and by level 9x-10x+, the loss in raw damage incurred by investing points into strength/agility/talent will be negligible when compared to the benefits of the increase abs and defence. Remember, mages are meant to be able to tank reasonably since they can't really move around, especially since meteor will make you stuck in your animation for a few seconds, increasing likelihood of death.

in hunting pure builds are nice, due to the fact you will use crystals to tank for you. While xping you are going to be hit by about 30-40 mobs at any given time. You need to be able to handle that kind of damage in order to xp effectively, a few points off of damage is negligable you will kill them in the next hit anyway. And with the differences in hp of each mob per map they dont die all at the same time so another hit will happen anyway :)

id say to get your lvl gear with good mix/age. put points in spirit and you should be able to tank your maps ok. it worked good for me. no need to put stat points where you dont need them. if you lower lvl you can put few points in health. but for the most part only put enough points in agility, talent ex.. to use the gear you have. no need to plan for later gear. i mean you can always restate as needed with new gear.
