leasm 6 Report post Posted January 6, 2012 Hi. Noob here, so I would like a few tips regarding the mech. I want to build my mech to be good enough on exping areas and also hunt. Not necessarily the best in one function, but average in both. So I need a build that can deal good AoE damage, and also kill strong mobs on hunting zones fast enough to not become boring. My first choice is the sparkmech. It deals fixed AoE damage and I don't even have to worry about Str, so I could put lots of points into Spi and Health. In this case, I would go with weapon+shield, and the following skills: - When exping: Metal Armor, Spark, Spark Shield. - When hunting: Metal Armor, Spark, Spark Shield, Golem and Magnetic Sphere. Other option I thought about is going with impulsion for AoE damage instead of spark, and changing a few skills according to the map. Would go with two-handed weapon and the following skills: - When exping: Weapon Mastery, Metal Armor and Impulsion. - When hunting: Weapon Mastery, Maximize (instead of Metal Armor), Grand Smash (instead of Impulsion), Golem. Impulsion and Grand Smash are weapon based, while Spark deals lots of fixed damage on its own, so my idea is that Spark can even be used to hunt 1x1 effectively. But my main concern is reaching a point where Spark becomes inferior than Impulsion as an AoE, and also inferior to Grand Smash as 1x1, when I get stronger weapons, specially two-handed ones. What you guys think about those choices? (talking here about lvl 80+)
srekcusybdetum 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2012 If you're running for something hybrid, build a power mech with Impulsion sounds better. You'll never reach what you want, anyway. As a mech you can't be good in 2 things with the same build. Spark to hunt is a bad idea. It might work on ET1, maybe ET2, wich is pretty useless. Items are cheap and training is fast. Focus on exp and leave hunting to 124+, when you reach ET3 or higher.
leasm 6 Report post Posted January 6, 2012 Thanks. But even if I focus on exping till 120+ as you suggest, what about using Impulsion with a two-handed weapon instead of Spark for AoE damage? (paired with Metal Armor and Compulsion for defense of course)
srekcusybdetum 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2012 Sounds bad. I tried it a while ago, using Impulsion was somehow the same of using Spark, but on a 132 mech with perfect +19 Dragon Hammer. Spark damage isn't high, but it never misses, the are is good and it's not limited to few targets. Run spark mech, even on hunting. For now Spark damage might be OK for that too. toykiller 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2012 When exping, you can use Mag Sphere and Comp. Mag Sphere does help kill a bit faster in exping and hunting, Comp just helps with tanking and makes sure they attack you and that SS's used to the best it can. For Spr (Spi) do what you're happy with, I have about 160 spr (for 600+ mana) and I like it. Others will say that mana drops a lot so you don't need high spr, but it's up to you Spark in ET1's ok, I guess, might not be the fastest. But you can tank well and if you can get a few mobs, even better. Haven't tried the new Impulsion since it went % based, but from what I've heard, the over-all damage of it's fairly close to Spark. leasm 6 Report post Posted January 7, 2012 Hey guys, thanks for all suggestions. I ended up creating two mechs to test both builds to lvl 75. Spark is insanely more powerful than anything else at that level, since it does great fixed damage at lvl 10. But for some reason I enjoyed more playing with a two-handed scythe and Impulsion, even with the lower damage. Also, I believe Impulsion will scale nicely with my weapons and allow great 1x1 damage for hunting, while Spark seems not to be future-proof. Anyway, I'm having a hard time to understand how Impulse works exactly. Seems that the character executes two strikes against a single mob (and each hit should add +65% as electrical damage), thus dealing around the same damage as Grand Smash on a single target. Mobs around are also hit, but seems they take a lot less damage indicating that only part of the damage is dealt. Yet they are sparked twice, so probably taking that bonus 65% two times as electrical damage. So, if my attack power is 100, that would mean: > 100 +65% * 2 hits = 200 physical dmg + 130 electrical damage on the target mob > 65% * 2 hits = 130 electrical damage on the mobs around Is this correct? Can someone help me to understand this skill? (I hate lack of information in games)
KeKNoRRiS 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2012 I think it ADDS damage for each spark, thus doing weapon damage to all targets as well.

But seeing how the mobs around take much less damage than your target, I can only think now that the AoE damage is only the electrical part ceated by your swings (originally a fixed damage, but now a % of the weapon dmg). KeKNoRRiS 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2012 I believe the dmg on the first mob is sometimes bugged instead of the aoe damage. Sometimes when you use the skill on a single target you get large dmg spikes, like multiple sparks hit your first target if the skill has "unused" sparks.
