American Horror Story is an anthology horror-drama television series created and produced by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk. The series centers on the Harmon family: Ben, Vivien and their daughter Violet, who move from Boston to Los Angeles after Vivien has a miscarriage and Ben has an affair. They move into a restored mansion, unaware that the home is haunted by its former inhabitants.

 

The series premiered on October 5, 2011, and is broadcast on the cable television channel FX in the United States. On October 31, 2011, FX announced that the series had been renewed for a second season consisting of 13 episodes that may be extended. On December 22, 2011, Murphy announced his plans to change the cast and location for the second season. However, actors from season one may appear as completely new characters.

 

American Horror Story has been well received by television critics, with many praising its horrific nature, unique visual style, as well as Lange's performance. The series drew consistently high ratings for FX, ending its first season as one of the highest rated new cable dramas of the year.[4] The first season received a number of nominations, including a Golden Globe award for Best Drama Series.
