muzzy 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2013 SITUATION: shield has 50% block, 50% evade, and 0 absorb on my character WHAT OTHERS SAY: I have read on forums that damage works out this way, first damage goes through the blocking system where the monster has a 50% chance of hitting me, then it goes through the evade system and finally absorb gets factored in. (not going to count defense for simplicity sake). QUESTION: 1. So does that mean the monster has a 50%+50%=100% of missing? OR 2. Does that mean the monster has a 50% x 50% = 25% of hitting me? MY conclusion: I think the second option is the correct one because block and evade are essentially the same, but the rpt system calculates them as separate entities. beaker1337 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2013 i believe its closer too 50% of block if it passes through. then it has a 50% to evade. then it goes through def then abs then hp so flip a coin. if its heads then it was blocked if its tails flip again if its heads this time you evade. if its tails then theres def, abs and hp you cant add multipy or add anything because they are independant
muzzy 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2013 I understand that block and evade are independent variables. Why did I multiply to get 25%? Because they are independent variables! if they weren't then i'll just add 50% + 50% = 100% and i'll be taking no damage 100% of the time. Just like you said, it's basically a coin flip. Using your example, the chances of getting heads twice after flipping the coin twice is 25% (outcomes are 1 tails 1 head, 1 head 1 tail, 2 heads, and 2 tails). I am using the same variable (flipping a coin) to determine the chances of ignoring damage.
beaker1337 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2013 Then for the first flip use a penny for the second use a quarter
dangthien 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2013 Yes, it is a flip coins Math problem. But still the chance to Dodge and Block of some class is over the top even with this calculation... So even if the dodge, defense and block chance can never reach 100%, it is almost impossible to kill Pike or Mech with full buff .
beaker1337 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2013 well..... only over the long run. you can have 10 heads in a row or 10 tails in a row. its only when you get into lager amounts of flips. But yes i would agree you do have to be lucky.
