What Draws the BR Crowd?

Recommended Posts

I started playing this game all the way back in 2003. Every few years I manage to get the bug and decide to start up on some private server to play for a few weeks to get it out of my system.  One thing I've noticed over these 13 years is that every single server, official or otherwise, seems to have a VERY healthy BR community. What is it about this game that Brazilians seem to enjoy so much? I have a few theories, but I'd like to hear from any Brazilians what draws them to this game (or games like it) over other games?

I'm sure that's true but my point is, what causes PT servers to be 95% Brazilian instead of, say, 20-30%? Even in the original EPT beta the majority of players were Brazilian, and now it seemswtis almost entirely so.

The main reason that most of PT community is made of us, Brazilians, is just nostalgia.

Brazil went through a process called "Digital Inclusion", in 2004~2006. Before that, having a computer was a rare thing for most brazilian, since both computers and internet acess was extremely expensive.

In that era, both Computers and Internet become more acessible, and, in that time, there wasn't any good brazilian published MMO to play. But, in 2004 to 2006, some games were published in Brazil, togheter with the mass Digital Inclusion, they made a huge sucess (Since there wasn't much of an competition, we had only these games back in the past).

These games were Ragnarok Online, Conquer Online, PT and Grand Chase.

It is obvious that the KING MMORPG of that era was Ragnarok, an amazing game, and PT was sucessfull to drag some portion of that market, since it offered a different gameplay, with full 3D graphics and more simpler gameplay than Ragnarok.

The reason we play PT is just by that, it was one of the first, if not the true first MMORPG we played, and its the same feeling when you play a Mario or a Sonic game, we play that because it was the thing we played on our childhood or teen ages.

That's about what I figured. I recall hearing that back in the 2004~ era when I originally played EPT, Many of the Brazilian players were playing form Internet Cafes, not from home, so only free games such as PT were readily available to be played. And I guess you're here now for the same reason I am, reliving those glory days. ;)

The main reason i'm still playing PT after so many years, is the nostalgic factor, since I like the game, even with it many flaws and dated mechanics, and the another, big factor is just the RPT itself.

I wouldn't be playing PT if RPT didn't exist. The sheer aumont of improvments, character balancing and the possibility for many, new things to be developed into the game, is the main reason i'm still playing RPT. Congrats to Wartale and his staff, making this two decade old game still relevant to this day.
