Number of Stone Spike circles

Does anybody know what the "# of Spike Circles" in the Magician skills description means?

 

I guess that it is the number of times the skill hit the enemy? I mean, it's like Diastrophism hits each enemy 2 times per cast or Meteorite hits each enemy 3 times per cast. However, if it is the case, I don't think the skill works properly as the damage I calculated is rather high.

 

Or it means something else? Anyone?

"number of circle" affects both skill range and damage.

 

the close you stand to the monster, the more damage. For example, if the monster is within the smallest circle, damage is x5, if the monster is within the furthest circle, damage is x1 (71%)
