MS Warrior build (aka the "newb" build) *UPDATED*

Recommended Posts

First, important stuff: this build is focused on solo play, made for poor people (like me) and/or first characters, if you're none of that, please, be respectful of us.

Nowadays I hardly have time to play anything, but I'll post this here in case it helps anyone... Who knows...

Seeing as Project Zeus came about with a lot of changes and that someone reacted to this like 5 days ago, I'll update this for current game setup.

Basics

This is what you'll need:

- a MS;

- a lot of patience!

Pros: you can interchange tank and power with just a click, you can solo most content and can even hunt alone, you don't need expensive stuff like perfect items or Wrenches, you can lvl just about anywhere as soon as it opens (even higher lvl ones);

Cons: in PvP you're quite weak, without the "full dmg" or "full def" you'll just be below everyone else.

This build is a sort of hybrid between tank and power mechs, it fills both of them roles quite well, but is not as good as them (i.e., you can tank better than any other class, but not as much as a true tank mech, you can also hit harder than most tank/hybrid classes, but not as much as pure power mech). This build will be divided into 2 sections: below 100 and above 100.

- Below 100

I say "below 100" loosely, might as well be "below 90" or "below 95", but at the very best is "below 100".

- Stats

SPR: 150

The rest is just "for equipment", whatever it is you find and/or buy and is better, put whatever points you may need to use it. Also, get 150 as quick as you can. As simple as that.

- Skills

FIRST: get a MS armor ASAP, doesn't matter which, mix it with the best ABS mix you can afford, you'll use that all the way to 100.

Physical Absorption: 10

Spark: 10

Spark Shield: 10

Compulsion: 10

Whatever's left, put on Magnetic Sphere and Grand Smash just because.

- Playstyle

This is PVE, if you need explanations for how to PVE, you're not playing it right.

Regardless, use every buff you have, but remember to keep Metal Armor ALL THE TIME, this is the one most important skill for this build, even if it is at 1, then lure stuff and Spark them into oblivion. Simple.

- Above 100

SCRATCH THAT!!!

Project Zeus nerfed Spark into oblivion, you'll just have to make do with the above 100 from the start, good luck and have crystals!

Now this is where it gets interesting... Once you get here, relocate everything, you shall start over.

- Stats:

STR: everything;

SPR: 88 (perfect Mirage, 80 for perfect Celesto ir you're hardcore, *102 for Belum*)

TLN: 90

AGI: 75 (perfect 120 bracelets, every *most* boots and gauntlets)

VIT: base

These are self explanatory, it's just like a power mech, you put a lot of STR to have a lot of base dmg to deal a lot of dmg. Even if more hardcore players may want 68 AGI and 74 SPR, I don't like them, I ain't hardcore.

New Note: you may want to be hardcore and put 68 AGI and 74 SPR, ms base STR dmg was nerfed, so you'll need a lot more STR, or a lot more powerful forces.

- Skills

From now on you'll need to use EVERY item with MS, you just can't afford to use NS stuff. *ALSO, you'll need to mix/age everything, you just can't afford to go clean.*

Physical Absorption: 10

Extreme Shield: 10

Mechanical Weapon Mastery: 10

Grand Smash: 10

Metal Armor: whatever's left 10

Impulsion: 10

Compulsion: 10

Magnetic Sphere: 10

"the one skill that buffs your shield from tier 5 that I don't remember the name"  Trine Shield: 10 0

Note: if you use a shield, you CAN, and I say CAN and not MUST, put some points into Spark and Spark Shield for offsheet dmg, it's not essential but it will help with the dmg.

Note 2: if you put Maximaze at 10, you'll became a full hybrid, you may use it in PvP for example.

Maximaze: 10

Note 3: Project Zeus nerfed Spark into oblivion, forget about Spark + Spark Shield for offsheet dmg, it doesn't work anymore, you'll gain donkeys with this, just go for Maximaze if you want dmg.

Note 4: forget about Trine Shield and Extreme Shield unless you REALLY want to use Maximaze and go full hybrid, than use both and forget about Metal Armor and Magnetic Sphere, but remember that Trine Shield makes Impulsion hits for donkeys so you WILL have to have a lot of atkr and use Impulsion instead.

At 100 you'll probably have above 450 STR, which paired with a 2h weapon (scythe, hammer or sword) can cause some neat dmg with Impulsion, even more than Spark. But this raises a problem: what to use? You have 2 options: 1) use a claw/sword and shield and 2) use a scythe/hammer.

- Option 1:

Pros: +def, +abs, much more tankier, and with these you can put points in Spark and Spark Shield for that offsheet dmg that is not bad at all.

Cons: -dmg, considering that a 2h sword is weaker than a 2h scythe, one can only wonder how much weaker a 1h sword is, so you can a claw instead, altough it won't do much better, just "better".

Note for opt1: this is only valid for Maximaze usage, read notes 3 and for above.

- Option 2:

Pros: +dmg, much stronger, with a scythe in hand you can deal as much dmg as a pike and still be sort of immortal.

Cons: -def, -abs, way weaker in defense department; without a shield your defense is hindered by a lot, and I mean it, shields are miracle workers (see ATAs for even more miracles).

Note for opt2: ms dmg was nerfed into oblivion by Project Zeus, if you want more dmg go for opt1 + Extreme Shield + Trine Shield + Maximaze, opt2 is now only for style or full power mech.

But they look the same, one is the opposite of the other... Which one is better?

I say option 2 is better. And i'll tell you why: in this game, ABS is everything, if you want to tank, you'll ned absorption, there is just no simple way to tank without it; sure, someone may argue that DEF does it's job, but if you compare a lvl 120 ATA with a lvl 100 mech to see which is tankier, you'll se what I mean, while the ata will have a ton of DEF, she will have a mediocre at best ABS, while a full buff mech will have a ton of ABS and a so so DEF, but the mech is basically immortal, while the ata is quite squishy, and she has items 20 lvls above!

Well, that doesn't explain why 2 is better, so here it is: even with a 2h weapon, you'll have Metal Armor with 200% Physical Absoption at your disposal, which will grant you a whopping 84 ABS, plus Compulsion and your skills alone will give you +120 ABS. So, at lvl 100 you're expected to have about 110 base ABS with a 2h weapon, plus 120, equals 230 ABS, and this, my friend, is enough to tank even a 110 exp map by yourself without the need for potions! Sure, you'll still need it, but unlike a FS that needs a potion every 5s or so, you'll need one per minute and even less if your equipment is top notch.

SCRATCH THAT! Read notes about opt1 and 2 above instead. Also, those ABS values have changed, Physical Absorption was nerfed and Compulsion was buffed, you'll have about ~114ABS from skills alone without Extreme Shield and Trine Shield, also, mob dmg was nerfed for some reason, this makes everything easier as you can use Maximaze + Trine Shield with a claw+shield and be super tanky and still hit for something.

Last, but not least: equipment choices.

- For option 1:

Simple: use a claw, you'll gain nothing with swords and you can't use axes. If you want maximum coolness, use a sword, it looks way cooler even if it is worse.

- For option 2:

Here you can choose, using hammer, scythe or sword will change very slightly your stats. Scythes have best max dmg of the game, so, in the end, if you're lucky, you'll deal more dmg, also, scythes have best block chance; Swords have a smaller gap between min and max dmg, so, while your avarage dmg will be the same, it will fluctuate a lot less, also, swords have best crit chance; hammer has nothing special about it, dmg gap is smaller than scythe but bigger than sword, crit and block are the same as sword, but they look rather silly, on the plus side they are much easier to find with MS than any of the other.

Scratch that! Use 2h scythe.

- Playstyle:

Now is the time to play smart. Impulsion has a much smaller AoE compared to Spark, also, it can only crit on your target, while the "lure them" part remains the same, you'll have to choose what to attack, because of that pesky crit on target, but it's not hard, just choose whatever mob is the strongest or the most durable, target a boss if applicable.

Buff usage also changes, while before you were using Metal Armor as if your life depended on it, now you'll have to have a 100% uptime of Compulsion, but, no worries, you can overlap them (cast while in effect), so make sure to cast it before it expires, else, and you're dead.

For single targets Grand Smash is much better than Impulsion.

And again, 2 ways to play:

1 - if you're solo, do what I said above;

2 - if you're on a party and have shield/claw at your disposal, use them and you may fill the role of tank nicely; altough you'll have less HP and overall stamina and regen,  your ABS and DEF will be the same, so you'll need to be more pricese when using potions, aside from that, just do what I said above.

Notes: if you're REALLY poor, just forget the "below 100" and focus on the "above 100" from the start, it will be more painfull to grind lower lvls with that little SPR, but whatevs. Below 100 part means nothing after Project Zeus, forget Spark ever existed. Also, forget about wrenches, they don't do anything anymore.
