whp159 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2011 Spirit 350 Staff 120+20: 116-127 MS (10) : (4 bolts)942-1036 ~ (7 bolts)1638-1814 VB (1) : (2 bolts)1924 - 2016 I don't know how is the better, but 1 VB is better than 1 MS, but MS is faster than VB... I think u need lucky for MS is better than VB because it make more dmg/min if use only 7 bolts Just for all know this... (I'm BR, because this i don't write much. Sorry for mistakes '-')

Crius 0 Report post Posted March 20, 2011 Edit: Ah screw it, starting over... VB should not be leveled beyond 1 (only doubles the cast cost for 72 points of damage). MS should not be leveled beyond 9, as this is when you get the maximum number of sparks. So if we assume that we use these levels of the skills, there are 4 variables: spirit, min weapon damage, max weapon damage, and cast speed. We get these formulas for average damage per second: MS: 5.5 * X (18 + [Min] + [Max]) VB: 2 * Y * (42.5 + 2 * [spirit] + [Min] + [Max]) where X and Y are the number of casts possible per second (I don't know those). In the case mentioned (350 spirit, 116-127 weapon), MS needs to be 42% faster or more in order to do equal or greater damage. VB also has the advantage of costing almost half as much MP/SP per cast and requires only 1 skill point instead of 9 for comparable damage.
cat0048 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2011 I know this is old, but incase some are still wondering in 30 seconds you get 30 casts of MS and you get 20 casts of VB. pretty much 1 cast of multispark is going to average the same damage as 1 VB bolt (not cast) essentially you get more dmg per second with VB because it is consistent damage where MS is sparatic damage. Crius 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2011 You'd have to have a fairly high weapon power to spirit ratio in order for it to be advantageous. At 5.5 sparks average (standard currently), you'd have to have less than 355 spirit if you're using a +20 perfect 120 staff as weapon in order to do more damage. At 7 sparks (max), you'd need less than 493 spirit. Basically, the less spirit and the better weapon you have, the stronger MS is compared to VB (though both are of course stronger with a better weapon). It would still cost you an additional 8 skill points for MS though, as well as the cost of casting it being almost twice as high. PS. I was wrong about the speed having to be 42% faster at those given values earlier. It's actually 37% faster.
