Weapon skins

Can I only use weapon skins (Christmas, Halloween) for my skins or can I just find some cool 12x weapon or something to use as skin ?

only those that can be put into when you press F for costume slots, there are a few for now: christmas, halloween, yumi, candy, and may be some others I can't remember now
