draw distance?

I played a few years ago, i swear the game had a bigger draw distance where there was no fog visible, what happened?

You can now change the fov.
On the control panel there is a sliding bar.
You can also use the /fov command and enter the value.

That's not what i mean. i remember feeling weird being able to see the entire map without fog blocking things in the distance.. but it was cool
