The Legend of Wartale

Hey everyone! As we all know, @Senpai is a huge fan of The Legend of Zelda franchise, and it definitely shows in the updates! We've seen qu1te a few references and Easter eggs inspired by the series throughout the game.

I thought it'd be fun to put together a list of the references I've spotted while playing, so here are the ones I've found so far!

Just a quick note: these are mostly my own observations and assumptions, so I might be wrong about some of them! But as a Zelda fan, I couldn't help noticing these similarities while playing. Some might be intentional references, while others could just be coincidences.

Anyway, here are the things that reminded me of Zelda so far!

#1. Feeding carrots to our mounts

Just like in Zelda, feeding carrots to our mounts gives them a speed boost, similar to how Epona can go faster in the Zelda games!

#2. Fire Barriers from the Fire Temple in Ocarina of Time

While recently replaying Ocarina of Time, I noticed that the fire barriers in the Fire Temple are very similar to the mechanic used during the Lijageball boss fight in Hellfire Catacombs. Another cool little reference to Zelda!

#3. Ice Cavern in Ocarina of Time

The slippery floors in the Ice Cavern remind me a lot of the ones in Luminous Cave. The movement physics feel pretty similar in both games, especially the way your character slides around on the ice!

In fact, the entire dungeon was inspired by the Ice Cavern from Ocarina of Time, as confirmed by @Overladyin this topic.

#4 - Cooking system with no recipes in game

I'm currently playing Breath of the Wild, and I noticed that the game doesn't have a recipe book... Just like Wartale, huh? Come on, Senpai-Sama, you didn't have to copy that part too!
