@Wartale : AoE skills with max target

Well it's for Wartale 'cause he's a developer but whoever knows a 100% sure answer can tell :P

 

There a few AoE skills in game that have a maximum number of targets you can hit:

Fighter's Cyclone Strike (9 targets at lvl 10)

Priestess's Divine Lightining (7) and Chain Lightining (9)

Mechanician's Impulsion (7)

 

maybe i'm missing one more.

 

Well question is: when you are surrounded by monsters, or simply there are more around you than the max you can hit with those skills, are the targets hit by those skills chosen randomly or there's a criterion by a target is preferred on another one?

 

Well it's mainly curiosity, according to my experience it should be 100% random but maybe they are being chosen by "nearness to you" or "the oldest one spawned gets priority". Again... only tell if you are 100% sure, everyone is able to guess :P

 

It can be important for those classes to know how those skills exactly work, because if it's 100% random it is almost useless to pick up a hs on your own with more than 10-12 mobs as you will waste time hitting random ones, thus killing slower (unless you are training in a low lvl spawn where you can one/two-shot everything :P).

 

For example if it's 100% random and I, as fighter, take a spawn with 20 mobs i'll end up hitting random mobs all the time and to kill one it could take up to double the time it would take in a spawn with only 8-9 mobs as there's a chance i would keep hitting 9 targets, then 9 different ones, then the previous 9 and so on...  :D

I guess it is on Random Hit on monsters that is reachable by you.

I think its random .. But talking of handle a hs or a 10-12 mobs .. I think its better to take a hs.. More mob randomly hit so more kills and faster spawn.. Its my opinion ;)

Well, i'll make an example.

 

Let's say i'm in a spawn with 20 mobs around me, when i kill one another one spawns at its place, I can only hit 9 of them and it takes time to kill one (for example cyclone does 500dmg more or less, mobs in MD1 have 10k hp so i need to hit them 20 times before they die). Now let's number these 20 mobs 1-20 :D.

 

1st cyclone: i hit 1-9 mobs

2nd cyclone: i hit 10-18

3rd cyclone: 1-9 again

4th: 10-18 and so on...

 

I will see the first mob die after 40 hits, the others will die immediately after, and there's a chance 2 of them won't get hit at all. Then i will have to wait for respawns, in the meanwhile i spent like 120 seconds and a lot of potions to kill just 18-20 mobs.

 

Instead, if i stay in a spawn with 10-12 mobs I will "waste" less hits before killing one, there's a chance I can always hit the same mobs so they die much faster and I use less pots since I tank less.

 

It's just an example ofc but imho dealing with less mobs is less time consuming (time = profit  :P)

true, also the chance is big that some monsters will just walk away becouse they can't reach you easily or just walk away xD.

It would be awesome if it would hit the monsters with the lowest hp around you so you kill faster ;p

Sorry but it would mean doing a lot of comparisions EVERY time you use a skill, which would result a decrease in game performance : D
