Crius 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2011 ...I just found out that, come august, I'll have a nephew. I opened my mail and found the comment "a bit low resolution, but still", with an attached image. Now, I generally consider myself to be fairly intelligent, but while I can recognize a sonogram when I see it, it took an embarrassingly long time for me to connect the dots. Or possibly it just took an embarrassingly long time to accept that there really was only one way to connect the dots, I don't know. Why am I telling you? Well, chalk it up to shell shock, and my need to say it out loud in order to process it (apparently the rest of the family already knew). If you want to surprise someone, sending them the results of your ultrasound with no prior hints that you would need or even be interested in having one is definitely a good option. Crius 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2011 Okay, thanks everyone (especially SkyX for the eloquent and original commentary). I think it's starting to sink in. Is it normal to feel like this when you're not even the parent?

TripleR 0 Report post Posted April 1, 2011 Is it normal to feel like this when you're not even the parent? No, unless you've been doing your sister for the last few months and now your conscience is killing you. I guess that's not the case here. ...is it?
Edgardo 0 Report post Posted April 1, 2011 A child is actually a bless in the family. Even though she comes in bad times. So you should be happy! Of course, if it's the first child your brother|sister have, it could be strange. but enjoy the course, and take care you this new family member. I'd love to be father|uncle (hopefully not for now, specially being a father) o_O'
Crius 0 Report post Posted April 1, 2011 No, unless you've been doing your sister for the last few months and now your conscience is killing you. I guess that's not the case here. ...is it? Erm, yeah, that's not really a concern. It's not like I'm unhappy or anything, it just feels a bit surreal to know I'll have a niece or nephew in a few months (turns out they don't know the sex yet). I'm pretty sure I'll love the little guy/gal to death, though hopefully not literally. Just the thought of holding him/her kind of scares me. I dunno, maybe I'm just starting to feel old, or maybe I'm feeling some subconscious stirrings of my own (very subconscious). I'm over the worst of it now (I made this thread about an hour after I found out) and had a long chat with the mother-to-be, but it still feels kind of strange to think about it.
